Congratulations to the track and field team for their outstanding performance at the ESCC championship meet at Notre Dame yesterday.

2017 ESCC Conference MVP Avan Edobar ’18 defended his long jump title by jumping 22 feet, 1 inch repeating as conference champion. He also took home all-conference honors by placing third in the triple jump and 200-meter dash. Jack Bullock ’19 earned all-conference honors placing second in the 110 high hurdles and third place in the 300 hurdles.

The Junior Varsity team finished fourth overall in the team standings with six athletes earning all-conference honors. The JV Shamrocks continued their domination in the ESCC completing a sweep of the half mile race. For the third consecutive year the Shamrocks brought home the gold in the 800-meter race and in a photo finish, freshman standout Sergio Mendieta, who also qualified in the fall for the IHSA state meet in cross country, edged out teammate George Jimenez ’20 at the line for a first place finish placing the Shamrocks 1-2 in what has become their bread and butter race. Mendieta also earned all-conference honors in the mile race placing third overall.

John Saner ’21 and Alex Ortega ’21 took third place respectively in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Also taking home hardware was the mile relay team of Carl Reina ’20, Jose Velgara ’21, Jimenez and Mendieta.

The Shamrocks are back in action next Thursday at Triton College running in the IHSA sectional meet as they look to qualify for the state meet in Charleston, Illinois.
