Thank you to those that participated in our Parents Club Meeting event on November 9, 2016 held in the library! A special thank you goes out to Patti Fabrizio for helping to promote and coordinate the event.
The forum presented an opportunity for parents of the Saint Patrick community to learn more about current and future doings from the principal’s prospective. In addition, families were given an opportunity to ask questions and further discuss other issues that needed clarification or additional explanation.
Below is a brief summary of the agenda items:
Open House Results
The 2 days were a tremendous success due to the hard work of our faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. We had over 300 people take an interactive and informative tour learning more about the many great programs that Saint Patrick High School has to offer. In addition to our open house success, we are currently on pace to have over 400 shadows visit the hallways of St. Patrick High School!
Catholic Schools Management visit — Oct. 24-Oct.26
A big thank you to the parents, students, faculty, and staff who participated in the Catholic Schools Management visit. It was a busy 3 days of interviews, document and policy reviews, and a variety of other items that will help to make Saint Patrick an even better high school in the future! A final report will be shared with the members of the administrative team, faculty, and board at a later date.
Cubs “Cyber Day” Celebration
November 2 was absolutely a historic and proud day to be not only a Cubs fan, but a resident of the city of Chicago! We recognized the importance and the positive influence the team had on our city and school and wanted to allow all (who wanted) to participate in the parade. It was not a day off, but a “Cyber Day”. This means that if we had to cancel school for weather and or emergency reasons, our students would be able to participate in a school day remotely and therefore the school day would not have to be made up at a future date.
ACT practice test #2: April 19
In the spring of 2016, the counseling department and administration met to discuss administering the ACT for freshman, sophomores, and juniors as: 1) a way to horizontally track progress; 2) increase exposure and practice with the test to increase scoring. This process started on September 16 and the second round will take place on April 19. Seniors will be expected to be in school that day for a college readiness workshop.
Fall Information Nights — 11/16, 12/7, 12/14 @ 6:30 PM
Last fall, we began hosting “mini open houses” for families that may not have had an opportunity to attend a regular open house or their son(s) had not shadowed. They were incredibly successful and while three have been hosted this year, there are still three more to take place. If you are interested in attending, please contact Brian O’Connor or Michael Fabrizio.
STEAM Night– November 17 @ 6:30 PM
Saint Patrick High School will be holding a STEAM Night event on Thursday, November 17, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Families and interested 5th through 8th grade students are invited to attend. We will be completing fun, investigative labs with students and telling parents more about Saint Patrick High School’s excellent STEAM offerings. For more information, email our Science Department Chair and STEAM Coordinator Marie Ferentz at email@example.com.
Future Recruiting Events with Details to Follow:
“Rock the House” Night — December 9 @ 5 PM
Breakfast of Champions — December 17 @ 9 AM
Other future events include: Gaming Night, Olympics Night, Field Day
The school is currently looking for people who would be able to volunteer and substitute at Saint Patrick High School. It would especially helpful on our heavier faculty absence days when people are involved in retreats. It is preferred that someone is a certified substitute teacher, but not a mandatory requirement.
Our next Parents Club meeting will be February 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the library. We invite you to participate in our meeting and discussion.
