Gregory P. Josefowicz ’70
Greg is a 1970 graduate of St. Pat’s, and during his high school years – and for many years thereafter – he was employed at Jewel-Osco, where he worked his way up through positions in merchandising, marketing and operations before being named the President of the company in 1997. In 1999 the Illinois Retail Merchants Association named him “Retailer of the Year.”
As a direct result of his success at Jewel-Osco, Greg has served – along with his other professional associates – on the board of directors of Wynn-Dixie Stores, Inc., one of the nation’s largest food retailers.
From 1999 through 2006, Greg served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officers of Borders Group, Inc., a $4 billion global retailer of books, music, and movies. In January 2006, Greg announced his retirement from the Borders Group but was asked to remain on as an advisor to the Board of Directors through the end of 2007.
A graduate of Michigan State University, Greg also holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and serves on the school’s Management Advisory Board.
Greg is a member of the Institutional Advancement Committee of the Board, and he agreed to complete the term of Vice Chairman when Mr. Christopoulos retired from the Board. He and his wife, Carol, currently live in Fennville, MI, and they have three daughters: Leslie, Lauren, and Lynne.
