TWO SAINT PATRICK SENIORS NAMED CHICK EVANS SCHOLARS

March 30, 2022

Saint Patrick High School is proud to announce that two seniors, Ryan Bender and Jack Schnoebelen, have received full tuition and housing scholarships through Western Golf Association’s Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. With seniors John Castro and Jack Doelger, who received the scholarship in December 2021, the class of 2022 has a total of four Evans Scholars.

Ryan Bender ‘22, who attended St. Edward, is currently a member of the National Honor Society and the Theatre Department at Saint Patrick High School. Ryan also does the daily announcements every morning and plays the bagpipes at special school celebrations.

“Receiving the scholarship means that I invested myself for the past four years routinely going to work and putting in a lot of effort to reach a future goal that wasn’t right in front of me. And now that I have achieved it, I understand what it takes to maintain this accomplishment” says Bender.

Ryan is appreciative of the support he has received from Dr. Joe Schmidt, William Caffrey and his parents, who encouraged and helped him attain this goal he has had for years.

In the fall, Ryan will be attending Marquette University where he will be studying Real Estate Development and Management.

Jack Schnoebelen ‘22, who attended St. Celestine, has been heavily involved during his time at Saint Patrick High School, as a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Shamrock Bowling Team, Kairos Leadership Team, Spanish Club, Intramural Leadership Council and Liturgy Team.

Jack’s biggest supporters over the years have been his family, friends and two of his teachers, Ms. McBride and Mr. Raho. He is also thankful for the Western Golf Association for giving him the opportunity to earn this scholarship, as well as Dr. Joe Schmidt and President Dan Santucci ‘02 who have guided him throughout the college application process.

Jack is excited to be a part of the Chick Evans family and says “being able to join a community of such successful and hardworking people is something that I am really looking forward to. Seeing all of my hard work, both inside and outside of the classroom, pay off is a great feeling.”

Jack will be studying Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall.

The scholarships – renewable for up to four years – are awarded to high school seniors who have a strong caddie record, excellent grades, outstanding character and demonstrated financial need. The scholarships are offered at 21 top universities across the country and worth up to $150,000 – $200,000 over four years.

With the addition of the two Shamrocks to the Evans family, the school has had a total of 108 students earn the prestigious scholarship. Currently, 16 Saint Patrick graduates are receiving a tuition-free education as Evans Scholars.
