The Saint Patrick football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 49-35 victory over Joliet Catholic on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Joey Lombardi got the Shamrocks off to a quick start by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown to give the Shamrocks an early advantage. His efforts opened the day for what would be a high-scoring afternoon for St. Pat’s.

Senior wideout Patrick Byrne led the way with three touchdowns and 112 receiving yards. Senior quarterback Anthony Mazzenga was 12-of-13  passing for 189 yards and four touchdowns, and  sophomore Marcus Wright rushed for 106 yards and a TD in his first varsity game.

Senior linebacker Ivan Gonzalez had a huge day defensively, recording more than 15 tackles.

The Shamrocks will look to extend their unbeaten streak on Friday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Chicago Heights to take on Marian (1-2).
