Below are results for Shamrock Athletics this past week and weekend.

Basketball

Saint Patrick Hoops ended the regular season 21-7 and 7-2 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) after defeating Northside College Prep 69-37 on Tuesday 2/25. Shamrocks finished tied for 3rd with Benet Academy behind Notre Dame and Marian Catholic in the ESCC. Senior Dominic Galati and junior Caleb Corro were named to the ESCC All-Conference team with sophomore Timaris Brown receiving an Honorable Mention. Saint Patrick earned the #2 seed in the 3A Grayslake North Sectional and will host the IHSA Regionals this week. Shamrocks play tomorrow (Tuesday 3/3) at 6 pm vs. the winner of tonight’s #16 Foreman vs. #18 Northside matchup. The winner advances to the Regional Finals on Friday 3/6 at 7 pm vs. the winner of tomorrow night’s second game between #7 Grayslake Central and #10 Antioch. 

Track & Field

Shamrock Track & Field competed at Glenbrook North High School on Tuesday 2/25. The 4×800 relay team of freshman Liam MacLellan, junior Joshua Esquilin, junior Juan Celio and senior George Jimenez ran a 9 minute, 27 second time putting them on pace for the State qualifying mark of 8 minutes, 16.81 seconds.

Shamrocks finished the week at Lewis University on Saturday 2/29 competing in the I.C.O.P.S. Meet against Aurora Central Catholic, Benet, Brother Rice, Carmel Catholic, De La Salle, DePaul College Prep, Fenwick, IC Catholic, Joliet Catholic, Loyola, Marist, Marmion Academy, Mount Carmel, Notre Dame, Providence, St. Ignatius, St. Joseph, St. Laurence and St. Viator. The 4×800 relay team had another great performance of 9 minutes, 12 seconds for a 6th place finish shaving 15 seconds off their previous time at Glenbrook North. Junior Joseph Nega finished in 16th place out of 35 with his time of 9.8 seconds in the 55 meter High Hurdlers and Jimenez ran a 2 minute, 13.91 second 800 meter run placing him in 14th place out of 40 competitors.

Shamrocks compete next Saturday 3/7 at Buffalo Grove High School in the 21st Annual Joe Scarpino Invitational.

Wrestling

This past Sunday, three Shamrocks participated in the IWCOA Fresh/Soph Regional Tournament. Sophomore PJ Summers took the Regional title at 138 lbs, while Daniel Espinoza ’22 (152 lbs) and Gio Hernandez ’23 (160 lbs) both finished 4th. By taking top four in the tournament, all three have qualified to wrestle at Fresh/Soph Sectionals next weekend.

Additionally, St. Pat’s and Team 312 Wrestling hosted the IKWF Youth Regional Tournament on Saturday, with four future Shamrocks advancing to the Sectional Tournament next weekend.

Fresh/Soph Sectionals will be hosted on Sunday 3/8 at Evanston High School and wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
