Below are results for Shamrock Athletics this past weekend.

Basketball

Saint Patrick Hoops (20-7, 7-2) defeated Marian Central Catholic on Senior Night (Friday 2/21) in the last regular season home game. Sophomore Caleb Corro led the way with 17 and senior Dominic Galati added 15 in the 82-43 conference win. On Saturday 2/22, Shamrocks defeated St. Joe’s on the road 49-48. Galati and Corro each scored 13. Shamrocks finished the season 7-2 in the ESCC, tied with Benet for 3rd behind Notre Dame and Marian Catholic in the conference.

Shamrocks travel to Northside College Prep tomorrow night for non-conference action and the final regular season game. Saint Patrick earned the #2 seed in the 3A Grayslake North Sectional and will host the IHSA Regionals next week. They’ll play Tuesday, March 3rd vs. the winner of Monday night’s (3/2) #16 Foreman vs. #18 Northside matchup. Tip off is 6 pm. The winner advances to the Regional Finals vs. the winner of Tuesday night’s second game between #7 Grayslake Central and #10 Antioch on Friday, 3/6 at 7 pm.

Swimming

Shamrocks took 9th place at the top-rated Niles North Sectional, considered one of the fastest in the state, on Saturday 2/22. Of the 19 races Shamrocks competed in, they had 100% best times.

Christian Mammoser ’22 – 200 (1:53.9) & 500 Freestyle (5:03.0)
Josh Esquilin ’21 – 500 Freestyle (5:45.6)
Nick Curio ’21 – 100 Breaststroke (1:08.4)
Nazar Fedorovych ’21 –100 Backstroke (1:00.01)
Sergio Mendieta ’21 – 100 Backstroke (58.7) and 50 Freestyle (22.7)
Jacob Munyon ’21 – 200 Freestyle (1:53.0) and 100 Butterfly (57.43)
Dominic Cielak ’20 –50 Freestyle (23.32), 100 Freestyle (51.04)
Sean Collins ’20 – 100 Freestyle (51.8)
Lance Min ’20 – 200 Individual Medley (2:06.09), 100 Breaststroke (1:03.9)
Dominic Sabella ’20 – 200 Individual Medley (2:13.3) and 100 Butterfly (58.8)

The 200 Medley relay team of Fedorovych, Min, Mendieta and Cielak started the Meet by dropping 5 seconds off their best time (1:43.8). The 200 Freestyle Relay (Mendieta, Cielak, Min and Esquillin) had a drop of almost 5 seconds (1:33.6) and the 400 Free Relay team (Esquillin, Sabella, Mammoser and Collins) had an 8 second drop (3:30.9).

Track & Field

Shamrock Track & Field participated in the Rockford Auburn Invitational on Saturday 2/22. It was the Shamrock’s 1st Invitational and 3rd track meet of the season. Sophomore Nevin Orleans finished in 7th place in the JV 200m Dash and senior George Jimenez ran the mile in 5 minutes and 8 seconds, which ranked him 24th out of 44 runners and the 800m run in 2 minutes and 9 seconds, ranking him 9th out of 44 runners. Several other Shamrocks had their personal best times as well.

Shamrocks next track meet is tomorrow at Glenbrook North High School. On Saturday, February 29th the team will be competing in the ICOPS Invitationl meet at Lewis University against teams from the ESCC and the CCL.

Wrestling

This weekend, three Shamrock state-qualifiers (Sean Conway ’22, Alex Goworowksi ’22 and Ronald Krewer ’20) competed in the IHSA State Wrestling Tournament. All three wrestled tough with Sean Conway (113 lbs) finishing 6th and becoming the first wrestler in school history to medal in his freshman and sophomore year.
