Saint Patrick High School names Markeise Russell ’11 Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning
(Chicago, IL, July 7, 2022) – Saint Patrick High School announced today that Markeise Russell, a 2011 alum of the premier all-male Catholic high school on Chicago’s Northwest Side, has been named Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning.
“We are pleased to welcome Markeise home as a valuable member of our administrative team,” said Saint Patrick President Dan Santucci ’02. “A proven educator, Markeise brings a wealth of leadership experience, energy and a passion for learning. Most notably, he’s expressed how grateful he is for the people at Saint Patrick who affected his life and how eager he is to pay it forward. His positive attitude and student-centered approach will help steer our school into the future.”
Russell, who most recently served as Assistant Principal at the Chicago Academy of the Arts, says he’s wanted to work at Saint Patrick since he was 14 years old. “I’ve never been more excited about an opportunity in my life,” he shared. “The thing I am looking forward to the most is supporting the teachers and helping them to be the best they can be. I am excited to build relationships founded on trust and collaboration.”
A member of the St. John the Baptist De La Salle Society dedicated to assisting students and their families with financial aid, Russell was recognized for his generosity with the Shamrock Pride Award at his 10-year class reunion last fall. “If it wasn’t for the tuition assistance program here, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Russell said. “I want the students I sponsor to have the same mindset to pay it forward as I did.”
As a student, Russell was actively involved in the school’s Fine Arts Music program. He was a member of the Honors Jazz Band, Honors Choir, Percussion, Jazz Combo and the St. Pat’s Orchestra for musicals. Additionally, he served as a Kairos Leader, which he fondly remembers as his “most important experience” as a student.
Upon graduation from Saint Patrick, Russell earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education at the Berklee College of Music. He has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, an Illinois Principal Endorsement from Concordia College and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education (EdD) in School District Leadership at National Louis University.
A former Band Director & Lead Music Educator and quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award, Russell has served as the Director of Music Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago since 2015, most recently at Holy Child Jesus Parish (formerly St. Margaret Mary Church).
