Saint Patrick High School Junior Kyle Smollen aced the 5th hole at Willow Hill Golf Course during a match against Northridge Prep on September 12. Kyle made the shot on a par 3 with his 8-iron and finished the day with a score of 36 during the 9-hole round.

“I didn’t even know it went in until my coach started screaming,” said the 16-year old Smollen. “I think he (Coach Tortoriello) was more excited than I was.”

Head Coach Mike Tortoriello certainly had something to be excited about as his Shamrocks won the match 153-174. Kyle Donovan was the meet's medalist and finished with a 1-under par 34.

Smollen started playing golf with his dad when he was in 6th grade (Hawthorne Elementary School ) but never played competitively until his Freshman year at St. Pat’s. Kyle and his family are members of Ridgemoor Country Club.
