Dear Family,

We hope this finds you and your loved ones remaining safe and well. It’s hard to believe but next week is our final week of cyber learning and assessments for the 2019-20 school year. Please take a few moments to read the information below regarding next week’s schedule, locker clean out, summer athletics and an update for the 2020-2021 school year.

Next Week’s Schedule (Note: This is a correction from previous communications)

Monday, May 25 – Memorial Day (No Classes)
Tuesday, May 26 – Green Day (Period A-E)
Wednesday, May 27 – Gold Day (Period F-I)
Thursday, May 28 – Assessment Day (Period A-E)*
Friday, May 29 – Assessment Day (Period F-I)*

*Teachers will provide further information about their individual assessments.

Teachers will submit their grades by the morning of Monday, June 1. Report cards will be loaded to the Portal system by Thursday, June 4.

Locker Clean Out
We will have Locker Clean Out for Underclassmen June 15-17. More details and designated times for your son(s) to pick up/drop off his belongings, including Band and Athletic equipment, Art materials, etc. will be provided.

Summer Athletics
Per the IHSA, summer contact days are suspended for this year, unless state government and medical leaders indicate such gatherings are safe. Also, as a reminder the school building and surrounding grounds remain closed and off limits until further notice.

2020-2021 School Year
As we look ahead to the 2020-21 school year, we are preparing for several different possible scenarios dependent on state and health officials guidelines. As part of our planning for the 2020-21 school year, we will be sending you and your son(s) a survey by the end of the week about your cyber learning experience these last few months. Your feedback will be important as we look at potential professional development opportunities for our faculty/staff and continue to plan for how instruction will be delivered in the fall. Some of the options that we have been preparing for are the following:

Return to In-Person Learning
In accordance with state and health officials’ regulations, this would entail returning to the building for in-person learning with no restrictions. Note: There are also scenarios where the building opening would be delayed and/or involve adaptations such as temperature checks, masks or social distancing.

Continuation of Cyber Learning
Similar to the cyber learning we adapted this spring with modifications and improvements based on survey results.

Hybrid Learning (Combination of Cyber Learning and In-Person Learning)
Based on state and health officials’ guidelines and group restrictions, there could be a possibility of combined cyber learning and opportunities for limited in-person learning which, again, may involve adaptations including temperature checks, masks and social distancing.

Most importantly, any decision regarding our return to in-person learning will be driven by protecting the health, safety and well-being of our students and faculty/staff who serve them. Wearing masks, social distancing, regular and repeated hand washing, and possibly, temperature checks, as well as daily deep cleaning of virtually everything will likely be part of conducting in-person learning in the foreseeable future.

We know there is still a lot of uncertainty about the coming months but we want to assure you that we are prepared to address all possible scenarios. We look forward to gathering your feedback and adapting, as necessary, to ensure we are continuing to provide your son(s) an education of the highest quality.

We thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding during this time as well as your faith in us as an institution. We will get through this challenging time and the coming months as we have all things in our 159-year history – together.

God Bless,

Joseph G. Schmidt
