Attendance Policies

In the event of a necessary absence from school, the following procedures should be followed:

  1. On each day of absence, the parent or guardian is to call the school (773-282-8844) between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m. to report the absence. One detention is the penalty for no call.
  2. On the day the student returns from the absence, he is to report directly to the Attendance Office with a note from the parent/guardian, explaining the reason for the absence. Failure to provide such a note upon returning to school results in two detentions on the day after the return to school and for every day thereafter until a note is provided. A student who submits a fraudulent note will be assigned five detentions.
  3. Upon returning to school, the student will be given an admit slip which is to be given to the second period teacher.
  4. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absence.
  5. The student who fails to report to the Attendance Officer upon returning to school following an absence will be assigned two detentions.

Medical appointments are expected to be made outside of school hours.  However, if necessity requires you to be absent for a reason other than illness you must request permission in writing 24 hours in advance of the appointment from the Attendance Officer. Other early dismissals (funeral, traffic court, etc.) follow the same procedure.  Failure to follow this procedure will result in two (2) detentions.

When a student accumulates six (6) absences, a note will be sent home informing the parents of the problem. At eight (8) absences, a phone call from the Attendance Office will be made to the parents notifying them of the potential absence problem.  Any absences over ten (10) must be verified with a doctor’s note.  A review by the school administration will be done for those students absent ten days.  Students can be dropped from class following this review due to excessive absences, regardless of academic standing.
