Golfers Poised for Post-Season
September 22, 2009

Saint Patrick golfers have come a long way since last year and are banking on their depth of experience to carry them throughout the upcoming post-season. Prior to heading into the Elk Grove Regional Oct. 6, the Shamrocks will compete in a handful of meets including the ESCC tournament on Oct. 1 at Pine Meadows. Each of the full cast of golfers have taken turns churning out big results for the Shamrocks including junior Pat Cermak, who has consistently produced scores in the thirties. Other top performers have been juniors Teddy Kon and Anthony Bono. Kon recently recorded a 37 in the Shamrocks 170-166 victory over Notre Dame, and Bono scored a 38 on the U.S. Open course at Olympia Fields in a match against Marian Catholic.
“I think we have a good chance of getting out of the regional, if not winning it,” said head coach Tom Hayes, noting the top three teams at Elk Grove will advance to the New Trier Sectional. “We are looking to get a team out of sectionals, but it’s going to be tough.” Other varsity golfers that will help the Shamrocks vie for a regional crown and state qualification are juniors Kevin Doherty, Billy Donovan and Joseph Kwitkowski, sophomore Jeffrey Pacocha, and the only senior on the squad, Jim Ulczak.
