Green Qualifies for USATF Nationals

Saint Patrick High School senior Kiante Green qualified to compete at the 2009 USA Track and Field (USATF) National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships on July 28-Aug. 2 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Competing as a member of the Zephyrs Track Club, Green placed third in the Young Men’s division of both the 800 (2:04.32) and 1500 (4:31.88) at the Region 7 qualifying meet held at Plainfield Central High School July 9-July 12. The top three finishers in each event advanced to the national meet.
At nationals, Green’s first race will be the 800 meter prelims on July 30 at 9 a.m. The first round of the 1500 meter run will begin July 31 at 11 a.m. To qualify for the Aug. 1-2 finals, Green must place in the top eight spots for the Young Men’s division. Competition will be held at North Carolina A&T State University’s Irwin Belk Track.
According to USATF, the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships is one of the most globally recognized youth athletic development programs, often serving as a springboard for future Olympic athletes. The USATF Junior Olympic Program requires national qualifiers to advance through three levels of competition at the preliminary, Association and Regional levels.
