November 15, 2007
Saint Patrick High School senior Michael Cermak signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf on a scholarship next season at the University of Toledo on November 15, 2007. Cermak, who hails from St. Mary of the Woods parish, will join head coach Jamie Mauntler and the Rockets in Toledo, Ohio after an outstanding career on the links for the Shamrocks.
Michael Cermak had an incredible senior season, dominating the toughest golf conference in the state. Cermak took medallist honors in all nine East Suburban Catholic Conference Dual matches that the Shamrocks played. Cermak completed his sweep of the E.S.C.C. by taking 1st Place in the E.S.C.C. Championships. Cermak was also the medallist in four tournaments: Prairie Ridge, Lincoln-Way, Galesburg, and the Saint Patrick Invitational. Cermak continued his strong play in the post season, winning an Illinois High School Association Regional Championship as an individual and leading Saint Patrick to their first IHSA State Finals berth as a team. The Shamrocks finished 10th in the state. Michael Cermak finished 25th in the state as an individual, posting an 11 over-par total of 155. It was Cermak’s third trip to the IHSA State Finals, having finished 38th in 2004 and 42nd in 2006.
Cermak joins a program that competes in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets finished 8th in the MAC Championships last season, and just completed the fall portion of their schedule. Michael Cermak joins his brothers Joe and Matthew as an NCAA Division I athlete. Joe Cermak is in his senior year, on a golf scholarship, at Iowa State University, and Matthew Cermak is a sophomore, on a golf scholarship, at Missouri State University. Patrick Cermak, the youngest of the four Cermak brothers, is a freshman at Saint Patrick, where he finished 48th in his first trip to the IHSA State Finals. |
