Shamrocks Host Cross-Country Invitational
August 29, 2007

Saint Patrick High School hosted the Shamrock Invitational Cross-Country Meet at Schiller Woods on Tuesday, August 28.  A total of three races were run with girls racing on the varsity level, and boys competing at the both the frosh-soph and varsity levels.

In the boy’s varsity race, Notre Dame’s Tom Barran took first place by a big margin, beating Mather’s Ivan Coronel by nearly 30 seconds.  With five runners in the top 14 finishers, Fenwick won the team competition rather easily.  Northside College Prep, St. Ignatius, Mather, Notre Dame, Marian Catholic, and Saint Patrick rounded out the top seven teams.  Erik Schmidt, who finished 21st overall, was the top finisher for the host Shamrocks of Saint Patrick.

Whitney Young dominated the thirteen-team girl’s varsity race as Rachel Joravsky, Devyn Thompson, Lavinia Jurkiewicz, and Maisie Vachuska all finished in the top seven, with Joravsky winning the race by 22 seconds.  Fenwick finished in second place, followed by Northside College Prep, Mather, Fenton, Resurrection, Marian Catholic, Trinity, Guerin Prep, and Gordon Tech.

With the top four runners, the Friars of Fenwick handily won the boys frosh-soph race.  St. Ignatius placed second, followed by Whitney Young, Notre Dame, Marian Catholic, Northside, Mather, Saint Patrick, and Gordon Tech.  A total of 13 teams competed in the frosh-soph race.
