NFL Players to Hold Football Camp at Saint Patrick
June 2, 2008
National Football League players Dan Santucci of the Cincinnati Bengals and Tim McGarigle of the St. Louis Rams will hold a football camp at Saint Patrick High School this summer for grammar school boys from fourth through eighth grade. The camp will run four days, from July 8 to 11, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the afternoon on Saint Patrick’s newly resurfaced practice field. Santucci and McGarigle will instruct campers on proper football techniques and discuss proper nutrition and conditioning, as well as the attitude and work ethic necessary to play football at the high school, college, and professional levels. For more information, contact Athletic Director Brian Glorioso at 773.282.8844 ext. 235 or visit www.stpatrick.org.
Santucci and McGarigle graduated from Saint Patrick in 2002. Both went on to have stellar college football careers, Santucci at the University of Notre Dame and McGarigle at Northwestern University. Santucci and McGarigle were inducted into the Shamrock Hall of Fame this past April.
Santucci was a two-way force for the Shamrocks, starring at both tight end and defensive end. He was a two-time All-Conference honoree, and he was named Honorable Mention All-State by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and Champaign News-Gazette following his senior season. Dan went to Notre Dame as a defensive lineman, but switched to the offensive line, starting the final 26 games of his career at guard for the Fighting Irish. The Cincinnati Bengals chose Santucci in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
McGarigle was an all-state and all-area selection as a senior at Saint Patrick. He was named first-team All-Conference and Catholic Metropolitan Conference Defensive Player of the Year as well as team MVP, totaling 107 tackles, and rushing for 1,457 yards and 12 TDs. Tim went on to Northwestern University, where he became the NCAA's all-time leading tackler (545). He was named All-Big Ten three times, and he was a national semifinalist for both the Dick Butkus Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award. The St. Louis Rams picked Tim in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL draft.
