Shamrocks Smash Roadrunners 57-43

The Saint Patrick Shamrocks ran their record to 15-5 with 57-43 thrashing of Nazareth Academy last Friday. The Shamrocks have now won five straight games and seven of their last eight. They are alone in first place in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, with a record of 9-1, one-half game ahead of the Chargers of Saint Joseph.
The Shamrocks controlled the game from the opening tip, outscoring Nazareth 16-5 in the opening quarter and 34-15 in the first half. Bryant Smith led the way for the Shamrocks, with 11 first half points and a couple of steals. Tim Traversa and Brad Bruno each scored six points in the first half.
The Shamrocks continued to roll into the fourth quarter, establishing a 27-point lead at 50-23, early in the fourth quarter. Smith finished with a game-high 17 points and three steals. Jerome Robinson was the only other Shamrock to reach double figures with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Bruno finished with eight points, while David Campbell added seven points. Despite being held scoreless in the second half, Traversa was a major factor in the Shamrocks’ victory, finishing with six points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
The Shamrocks return to action by hosting a pair of E.S.C.C. games this weekend. They welcome the Corsairs of Carmel on Friday night and the Lions of Saint Viator on Saturday night. The Shamrocks beat both Carmel and Saint Viator on the road earlier this season, winning 51-49 against the Corsairs and beating the Lions by a score of 53-39.
