The Saint Patrick Shamrocks opened the East Suburban Catholic Conference portion of the 2006-2007 season by defeating St. Viator 47-32 on Friday, December 1. The Shamrocks are now 3-1 on the young season.
Sam Maniscalco scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Shamrocks. Edmond O’Callaghan had a strong game. O’Callaghan scored 11 points, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, and blocked three shots, and Mike Mockler added seven points and eight rebounds. The Shamrock defense held the Lions below 30% shooting from the floor, including 2 for 12 (17%) from three-point range.
Mockler got the Shamrocks off to a quick start, scoring the first two field goals of the game as Saint Patrick jumped ahead 7-0. Saint Patrick maintained that advantage throughout the first half, going into the intermission with a 21-13 lead. In the third quarter the Shamrocks put the game away as Jerome Robinson keyed an 11-2 run with four points, a block and a steal. The Shamrocks were able to overcome a night of poor free throw shooting, winning the game despite making only 13 of 25 foul shots (52%).
The Shamrocks resume East Suburban Catholic Conference play on Friday night, when they travel to Niles to take on the Dons of Notre Dame. The Shamrocks have dominated their series with the Dons, winning seven straight games at Notre Dame and 15 of the last 16 meetings between the two teams.
