The Saint Patrick water polo team upset Fenwick by a score of 8-6 on April 4. In a match-up of the top two teams in the state, James Ridgeway dominated the game for Saint Patrick, racking up six goals and eight steals to keep the Shamrocks undefeated at 9-0. The loss was the first in two and a half years for the Friars. Saint Patrick was ranked #1 in the state in the April 15th media poll on www.illpolo.com.
The Shamrocks then captured the title in the Second Annual Daniel Noble Memorial Tournament, with a perfect 4-0 record. The Shamrocks were never seriously challenged in the tournament as they scored easy victories over Evanston, Libertyville, and Waubonsie Valley to earn a berth in the Championship Match against 10th ranked Loyola Academy. The Shamrocks pounded the Ramblers 11-2 in the title match, running their record to a perfect 14-0 on the year. Ridgeway scored six goals to go with four assists and four steals against Loyola. Ridgeway finished the tournament as the leading scorer, and top defensive player, earning Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Pat Szyska and Brendan Skelton joined Ridgeway on the All-Tournament Team.
The #1 Shamrocks and the #2 Friars could clash again this weekend at the Brother Rice Tournament.
