Cermak signs to play Golf at Missouri State
November 9, 2005

Saint Patrick High School senior Matthew Cermak signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf on a scholarship next season at the Missouri State University on November 9, 2005. Cermak, who hails from St. Mary of the Woods parish, will join head coach Neal Stafford and the Bears in Springfield, Missouri after an outstanding career on the links for the Shamrocks.

This year Cermak led the Shamrocks to an undefeated record in conference dual meets and their first ever E.S.C.C. Team Championship. Cermak has been a model of consistency over his four years at Saint Patrick. He was a four-year letter winner and IHSA Sectional Qualifier, three-time IHSA State Qualifier, two-time All East Suburban Catholic Conference honoree and twice won IHSA Regional Medallist honors. Cermak placed 25th as a sophomore and 50th as a junior before finishing 27th in the IHSA State Golf Championships this year. The highlight of Cermak’s 2005 season came when he recorded a hole in one on the 4th hole of the state tournament’s first day.

Cermak joins a program that competes in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears finished 6th in the MVC Championships last season, and just completed the fall portion of their schedule. Matthew Cermak joins his brother Joe as an NCAA Division I athlete. Joe Cermak plays golf on a scholarship at Iowa State University.
