Kreczmer Leads Eight Shamrocks Named All-ESCC
October 24, 2005

Eight Saint Patrick Shamrocks were named to the All-East Suburban Catholic Conference Football Team, with Brandon Kreczmer earning the conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. Four offensive players, three defensive players and a place kicker from Saint Patrick were selected to the 2005 All-Conference team.

Kreczmer was the leader of the Saint Patrick defense. Despite the fact that opposing teams either double-teamed Kreczmer, or ran away from him, he led the Shamrocks in tackles (80), tackles for loss (23), and sacks (6.5). Kreczmer also served as a tight end in offensive goal-line formations and caught a touchdown pass in the season opener.

The Shamrocks featured a high-octane passing attack, averaging over 33 points per game this season, and the four offensive players named to the all-conference team reflect that. Quarterback Tom Barrett threw for 2,068 yards and 27 touchdowns with only eight interceptions in 229 pass attempts. Barrett averaged 230 yards passing per game and threw at least one touchdown pass in every game this season. Two of Barrett’s favorite targets were honored as well. Wide receiver Matt Ledenbach caught 41 passes for 859 yards and 10 touchdowns, and tight end Mike Kotz hauled in 18 passes for 174 yards and three scores. Kotz also handled the punting duties for the Shamrocks, averaging 35.7 yards on 33 punts and pinning opponents inside their own 20-yard line on six occasions. Left tackle Jon Arroyo handled the job of protecting Barrett’s blind side admirably, giving the quarterback a chance to look downfield.

In addition to Kreczmer, the Shamrock defense had a pair of junior defensive backs named All-Conference. Cornerback Jack McKenna led the team with four interceptions and 11 passes defended. McKenna also recorded 27 tackles. Safety Brian McGarigle racked up 43 tackles, and four tackles for loss. McGarigle also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

The final Shamrock All-Conference honoree was junior place kicker Chris Gasiorek. Gasiorek made 34 of 38 extra point attempts, and two field goals, but his greatest contribution was on kickoffs, where he controlled the opponents’ return game with 22 touchbacks.
