The Saint Patrick golf team clinched their first East Suburban Catholic Conference Championship with a third place finish in the E.S.C.C. Championships hosted by Marian Catholic at Glenwoodie Golf Club in Glenwood. The conference awards points for both head-to-head dual meets, and the E.S.C.C. Championships. The Shamrocks earned 10 points with their undefeated record (9-0) in conference dual meets and eight points for their third place finish in the conference championships. Those 18 points tied defending E.S.C.C. Champion Saint Viator, whom the Shamrocks defeated in head-to-head competition, for the title as champions of the conference.
Mike Cermak led the way for Saint Patrick, posting identical scores of 38 on both the front and back nines for a four over par 76. Matt Cermak scored a 37 on the front nine-but came back in at 40 for a final score of five over par 77. Ryan Hoesley and Matt Merkel each shot rounds of thirteen over par 85 to complete the Saint Patrick scoring. Hoesley struggled on the front nine with a 44, but shot 41 on the back nine, while Merkel was just the opposite, carding a solid 41 on the front, and shooting 44 on the back.
Next up for the Shamrocks is the Elmhurst (York) Sectional of the IHSA Boy’s Golf State Championships. That event will be held at Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale on Monday October 3. Following the Regional, Saint Patrick will participate in the Chicago (St. Ignatius) Sectional at George Dunne National Golf Course in Oak Forest on Tuesday October 11.
