The Saint Patrick High School golf team continued their outstanding play, remaining undefeated in head to head competition. The Shamrocks improved their record to 10-0 with East Suburban Catholic Conference victories over Nazareth Academy and Marian Catholic and a non-conference win over 2004 state qualifier Fenwick last week.
On Tuesday afternoon the Shamrocks soundly defeated Nazareth Academy by 25 strokes (158-183). Matt Merkel paced the Shamrocks with an even par round of 36. Matt Cermak was two strokes back with a two over par 38. On Wednesday Saint Patrick pulled out a tight match against Marian Catholic (161-166). Matt Cermak shot the low round for Saint Patrick with a two over par 38, while Ryan Hoesley carded a three over par 39.
On Sunday the Shamrocks took on Fenwick at the extremely challenging Lost Dunes Golf Club in Bridgman, Michigan. The Shamrocks ran their record to 10-0 with an exciting three-stroke (322-325) victory over the Friars. Mike Cermak, who shot a four-over par 76 to take medalist honors, was the only Shamrock to break 80. Ryan Hoesley shot 80, while Matt Cermak finshed with an 81, and Brian O’Connor shot 85. Fenwick was a regional champion and a state qualifier last year.
