  Shamrocks Begin Conference Play
April 24, 2006

The Saint Patrick Shamrocks finished their first full week of play in the toughest baseball conference in the state, the East Suburban Catholic Conference. The Shamrocks played six conference games in eight days, winning two and adding a non-conference win over Lake View to bring their record to 12-7 on the season.

The Shamrocks opened conference play with a doubleheader at Marian Catholic on Saturday, April 15. Steve Yopchick provided the offense, and Mike Kotz and Tim Mohs combined to shut down the Marian attack in a 9-2 Shamrock victory in the opener. Yopchick went three for four with a home run, and Jack McKenna added two hits and an RBI. Kotz remained unbeaten, picking up his fourth straight win by pitching five and two-thirds innings, allowing only two runs. Mohs finished the game off with a strong relief effort. In the nightcap, Mike Bolger took the loss as the Shamrocks allowed three unearned runs in a 7-2 loss.

On Monday afternoon, the Shamrocks traveled to Arlington Heights to take on the Lions of Saint Viator. Saint Patrick came out on the short end of a wild game, 12-9. In the return match at Amundsen Park on Wednesday, Luke Vail shut down the Lions in an 11-1 victory.

Thursday afternoon the Shamrocks took on the Wildcats of Lake View in a non-conference game. Saint Patrick easily defeated Lake View by a score of 12-5.

Saturday the Shamrocks were swept by Nazareth Academy in a doubleheader in LaGrange Park. The Roadrunners won the first game 8-2, and they took the nightcap 10-2.
