The Saint Patrick Shamrock wrestlers took second place at the East Suburban Catholic Conference Championships at Marist High School on January 27. Three Shamrocks won their weight classes: Joe Fagiano (215 lbs), Brian Rategan (171 lbs), and Brian Ridley (130 lbs). Saint Patrick also earned four second place finishes, and two third place winners.

Fagiano ran his record to 36-2 on the season as he steamrolled his way through the 215-pound class with three straight victories. Fagiano is currently ranked second in the state. Brian Rategan won the conference championship at 171 pounds. Rategan has posted a record of 33-8 this season.

Brian Ridley was the Shamrocks’ third conference champion, topping the 20-win plateau on his way to the title at 130 pounds.

Trent Koenig (2nd –103 lbs), Jimmy DiNino (2nd – 112 lbs), Tony Okal (3rd – 119 lbs), Steve DiNino (2nd – 135 lbs), Jimmy Coduti (3rd – 140 lbs), and Matt Ortega (2nd – 145 lbs) all were major contributors to the Shamrock’s success.

The Illinois High School Association State Tournament begins this weekend when the Shamrocks take part in the Oak Park (Fenwick) Regional.
