Mayerbock signs to play Football at Northern Illinois
February 8, 2005
Saint Patrick High School senior Tim Mayerbock recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play football next fall at Northern Illinois University. Mayerbock, an offensive lineman who hails from St. Edward parish, will join head coach Joe Novak and the Huskies after an outstanding career for the Shamrocks.
As a team captain, Mayerbock helped lead Saint Patrick to a 9-2 record during his final season. He was named Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year by the East Suburban Catholic Conference following his senior season, and he was a two-time All-E.S.C.C. selection. At six-foot-four and 300 pounds, Mayerbock was an intimidating presence at left tackle. Mayerbock’s ability to control the line of scrimmage showed in the fact that Saint Patrick allowed only two sacks all season, while Shamrock ball carriers averaged nearly five yards per carry as a team.
Mayerbock joins a program that has established itself as one of the best in the Midwest over the last four seasons. The Huskies have gone 19-5 over the last two years, and they have finished both seasons ranked as one of the top 30 teams in the nation. Under Coach Novak the Huskies have won at least a share of the Mid-America Conference West Division Title in three of the last four years. Novak’s Huskies have strung together five straight winning seasons for the first time since the mid-1960’s.
