The Religious Education Department places a high value on the development of the
student as a child of God, searching for self-understanding. The emotional and
intellectual development of the student is seen in the light of the Christian
understanding of people. Students are challenged to be reflective, self-disciplined and
to acquire an intellectual understanding of their Catholic heritage. The department
views as important the academic pursuit of Christianity and it also encourages the
student to embrace his faith in a living and loving relationship with God and neighbor.
Academic understanding of the Catholic heritage and its social implication is required.
Christian faith and understanding are supported and encouraged at each level by the
department. Students are valued as persons and courses are taught in a relaxed and
friendly atmosphere yet a certain amount of self-discipline and serious study is required
of the student.
SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Students in a religion course will be strongly encouraged, with appropriate incentives,
to give hours of Christian Service each semester. All freshmen, sophomores and juniors
are required to give (10, 20 and 20) hours of Christian Service during the year. Other
students are strongly encouraged to participate in service opportunities determined by
their teacher in view of the content of an individual course and the level of the student.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Each student is required to take one religion course each year he attends Saint Patrick
High School. The required freshman and sophomore courses are full-year, junior and
senior are one-semester, one-half credit courses. In order to graduate, a student must
amass three credits in religion.
