Saint Patrick senior Thomas Nawotka was recently selected by the Evans Scholars Foundation to receive a Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. Nawotka, a graduate of Saint William Grammar School, will attend Northern Illinois University beginning next fall, where he will study Spanish.

The Evans Scholars Foundation is a charitable trust, which provides undergraduate scholarships for deserving caddies, a concept originated by Charles Evans Jr. and known as the Evans Scholars Program. The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a one-year grant, which covers tuition and housing and may be renewed for up to four years at the Foundation’s option. Since their inception in 1930, the Evans Scholarships have evolved into the nation’s largest individually funded college scholarship program. More than 8,000 caddies, men and women, have graduated as Evans Scholars and over 800 Evans Scholars are currently enrolled, most of them at one of the 14 universities where the Evans Scholars Foundation owns and operates a Scholarship House. The "Chapter House Concept" and the many benefits of fraternal living make this program unique. For most of the Evans Scholars, their campus homes are the Chapter Houses maintained by the Foundation at 14 major universities.
