February 2, 2006
Saint Patrick High School’s jazz students were treated to a clinic with renowned tenor saxophone soloist Mark Colby on Thursday, February 2. Students in all three of Saint Patrick’s jazz bands were able to work with Colby. This type of interaction with top musicians helps make the Saint Patrick Jazz program one of the best in the city.
Colby has performed with Gerry Mulligan, Jaco Pastorius, Frank Sinatra, Maynard Ferguson, Bob James, Charlie Haden and Mose Allison. He is a first call studio musician, and has played on over 2,000 commercials in the competitive Chicago market. He has been a jazz faculty member at DePaul University since 1983, as well as Elmhurst College. Currently, Colby is performing as a guest soloist and clinician/ adjudicator at high schools and colleges throughout the United States representing the Selmer Company.
Colby will return to Saint Patrick in May to play with the Saint Patrick Jazz Bands as the featured performer at the school’s annual Spring Jazz Concert on May 4.
