  Theatre Department Presents "The Foreigner"
September 27, 2004

Saint Patrick Theatre Department Presents "The Foreigner" The Saint Patrick High School Theatre Department has chosen "The Foreigner" for their fall production. Written by Larry Shue, "The Foreigner" is a hilarious farcical comedy based on what the New York Post describes as a "devilishly clever idea."

The play is set in a rural Georgia fishing lodge often visited by "Froggy" LeSueur, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So "Froggy," before departing, tells everyone that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once Charlie is alone the fun really begins, as he overhears more than he should. Many damaging revelations are made with the belief that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said. The fact that he does understand fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play, and sets up the wildly funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the "bad guys," and the "good guys" emerge triumphant.

The student cast features Russell Avellana, Dominic Clemente Jr., Karl Neurauter, Adam Serwa, and Steve Tardella from Saint Patrick. Kathleen Myers from Resurrection High School and Mary Claire Schmit from Northside College Prep play the female roles. The student crew is made up of Assistant Lighting Designer Adam Stasinopoulos, Sound Designer Peter McGraw, Stage Manager Edel Ellasos (Guerin Prep), and Assistant Stage Managers Andrew Villareal. The Saint Patrick Theatre Department has assembled a first rate artistic team to work on "The Foreigner." Kevin Long directs the play, with sets by Harrold McKay, costumes by Barbara Harris, lighting by John Imburgia, and properties by Gena and Adam Long.

Performances of "The Foreigner" are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on October 22 and 23. The play's run will conclude with a matinee performance at 2:00 p.m. on October 24. All performances will be at the Saint Patrick Performing Arts Centre, located at 5900 W. Belmont. Tickets for all shows are priced at $7.00. Tickets can be purchased by mail order, by phoning the Saint Patrick Box Office at (773) 286-8470.
