SPHS Jazz Band to Perform at Chicago Jazz Festival

The Saint Patrick High School Honors Jazz Band will have the privilege of taking part in a Chicago music tradition, performing at the 26th annual Chicago Jazz Festival in Grant Park on Labor Day weekend. The Shamrock Honors Jazz Band will kick off the Jazz and Heritage Family Stage of the festival with an hour-long set, beginning at 12:30pm on Friday, September 3. The Jazz and Heritage Family Stage combines history and information about the genre with the element of live music.
The Chicago Jazz Festival is one of the top music festivals in the nation, attracting many top of the top stars from the world of jazz. The 2003 Chicago Jazz Festival was recognized by JazzTimes magazine as the "Best Jazz Festival" of the year.
The Saint Patrick High School Jazz Program consists of three bands (First-Year Band, Jazz Band, Honors Jazz Band) and combos. All bands rehearse daily and receive credit toward graduation. Private instruction with some of Chicago's finest performers and teachers are offered on every instrument. Every summer, Saint Patrick hosts a jazz camp for area grade school musicians.
Saint Patrick High School is Chicago's oldest Catholic high school for boys, and for over 140 years it has remained at the forefront of education, administering to the needs of young men in the Chicagoland area. |
