April 6, 2005
Saint Patrick seniors Patrick Rice and Joseph Drozd were recently selected by the Evans Scholars Foundation to receive Chick Evans Caddie Scholarships. Rice, a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School will attend Northwestern University beginning next fall. Drozd, a native of Elmwood Park, who attended St. Celestine Grammar School, will continue his studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The Evans Scholars Foundation is a charitable trust, which provides undergraduate scholarships for deserving caddies, a concept originated by Charles Evans Jr. and known as the Evans Scholars Program.
The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a one-year grant, which covers tuition and housing and may be renewed for up to four years at the Foundation’s option. Seventy-five years since their inception in 1930, the Evans Scholarships have evolved into the nation’s largest individually funded college scholarship program.
More than 8,000 caddies, men and women, have graduated as Evans Scholars and 836 Evans Scholars are currently enrolled, most of them at one of the 14 universities where the Evans Scholars Foundation owns and operates a Scholarship House.
