Theatre Department Presents "Damn Yankees"
March 22, 2004
The Saint Patrick High School Theatre Department has chosen "Damn Yankees" for their fall production. “Damn Yankees” is the only successful musical comedy built around the American national pastime of baseball--the baseball story neatly combined with the age-old Faust theme. Based on Douglass Wallop's Novel "The Year The Yankees Lost The Pennant," the show is about man's obsession with baseball. Joe Boyd sells his soul to Mr. Applegate (the devil) for 'one good, long ball hitter' for his team the Washington Senators and becomes a 22-year old sports superstar. He can escape by going back to his wife before nine o’clock on the night of the final game. Applegate tries in more ways than one to stop Joe from succeeding, because he gets Joe's soul the night of the final game. At nine o’clock, Joe returns to his 40-year old form, but hits a grand slam anyway, winning the pennant for his team.
The student cast features Kevin Kaucher as Joe Boyd, Mariella Mosthoff as Meg Boyd, Russell Avellana as Applegate, Carlyn Aumiller as Joe Hardy, and Jenna Anast as Lola. The rest of the student cast is rounded out by Saint Patrick students: Stan Budzynski, Mike Bryant, Przemyslaw Szumowski, David Esturain, Austin O’Brien, Nicholas Theisinger, Greg Kuczer, T.J. Nichol, Adam Serwa, Shane Garcia, and Mike Peek as well as girls from local high schools: Dana Olson, Grazyna Jakubowska, Kathleen Myers, Rachel Fusello, Erin Nederbo, and Juliana Rossi.
The student crew is made up of Lighting Designer Adam Stasinopoulos, Sound Designer Peter McGraw, Stage Manager Andrew Villareal, and Assistant Stage Manager Edel Ellasos (Guerin Prep).
The Saint Patrick Theatre Department has assembled a first rate artistic team to work on “Damn Yankees.” Kevin Long directs the play and choreographs the play along with Rachel Gordon, with sets by Eric Appleton, musical direction by Kathryn Tahiri, costumes by Suzanne Mann, lighting by Adam Stasinopoulos, and properties by Lorraine Townsend.
