Christian Brother Celebrates Fifty Year Anniversary
August 31, 2009
De La Salle Christian Brother Michael Flaherty, F.S.C., was honored on July 25 by the Christian Brothers Midwest District for reaching his 50 year anniversary. Currently a religion teacher at Saint Patrick High School, Flaherty has also spent time in administrative roles at both St. Joseph High School in Westchester and former Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison. He claims that the most helpful advice he ever received was early on in his career when he was assistant principal for Brother Alfred Marshall at St. Joe’s. “He told me if you have real authority in a school, the only note you ever have to send somebody is a note that says, ‘I’d like to see you at three o’clock in my office,’” said Flaherty. “I think that was very good advice and gets a person thinking more than any other note will.” Flaherty was honored with eleven Brothers at the July 25 celebration held at Lewis University.
St. Pat's is home to four Christian Brothers who have a combined 209 years of service to the religious community.
