Saint Patrick Heralds First Day of Classes
August 18, 2009

Saint Patrick High School will welcome 855 students for the first full day of school this Wednesday including 213 freshmen. Faculty and staff are looking forward to implementing various curriculum enhancements including an addition to the Program for Accelerated College Credit (PACC). “St. Pat’s always has and will continue its efforts to develop and maintain a strong curriculum that can compete with the top high schools in the nation,” said assistant principal Jeff Troxell. “Part of that process means that we remain innovative in helping all students reach their potential. PACC classes are a significant factor in those initiatives.”

PACC courses allow students to go above and beyond the credit achieved by advanced placement (AP) tests by giving them the opportunity to earn college credit for their day-to-day work in the classroom. Currently, students can earn dual AP/PACC credit for the following courses: AP Calculus, Honors Probability and Statistics, and College Biology. The school also works with students on a case-by-case basis to create other opportunities for those looking to work ahead to earn college credit. Founded by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Chicago’s oldest all-male Catholic high school takes very seriously its mission to create lifelong learners and leaders of the Church and society.
