Shoe Drive for Haiti: Feb. 1-5
January 29, 2010

The National Honor Society at St. Patrick High School will host a shoe drive to collect new and gently worn shoes for Catholic Relief Service’s ongoing aide efforts in Haiti. Shoes will be collected at the school during the week of Feb. 1 through Feb. 5. Neighbors and friends of the school are encouraged to drop shoes at the school’s main office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. during the week of Feb. 1.

St. Pat’s students have also collected $1,500 through weekly mission collections to contribute to the Haitian relief effort. The French Club held a bake sale this week which raised about $500. Additionally, the club will offer red and blue “Haiti Relief 2010” wristbands for a suggested minimum donation of $2.00. French Club coordinator and St. Pat’s French teacher Brianna Dahly plans to send the funds directly to the Christian Brothers stationed in Haiti. According to Brother Bernard Collignon, head of the Lasallian Sector in Haiti, property run by the Christian Brothers in Port Au Prince sustained significant damage in the Jan. 12 quake. The provincial house of the Brothers of Christian Instruction was completely destroyed.
