Saint Patrick Celebrates Catholic Schools Week Mass
January 29, 2008
Saint Patrick High School kicked off “Catholic Schools Week” with a Mass on Monday, January 28, 2008. Father Larry Sullivan of Saint Celestine Church presided over the service.
The service became very emotional when Matt Schueler, the father of Hank Schueler, the Saint Patrick freshman who passed away in December, following a courageous, 13-month battle with Leukemia, addressed the entire Saint Patrick community. Mr. Schueler expressed his family’s gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the students, faculty and staff of Saint Patrick following Hank’s passing. Mr. Schueler also announced the formation of the "Henry Schueler, 41 & 9, Foundation," which will raise money to fund a scholarship in Hank’s honor and raise funds to attack the leukemia that afflicted Hank.
Mr. Schueler also announced the plans of Hank’s brother Joe, Saint Patrick Class of 2017, who intends to force Saint Patrick Athletic Director, Brian Glorioso, to un-retire the Shamrocks’ number 9 baseball jersey that was retired in memory of Hank. Joe Schueler then took the microphone and thanked the students of Saint Patrick “for being so nice to Hank.”
“Catholic Schools Light the Way” is the theme of Catholic Schools Week 2008 that will be celebrated in Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools in Cook and Lake counties between Sunday, January 27 and Saturday, February 2. This annual, nationwide celebration is sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association, and features local school activities including special Masses, open houses and visits from civic representatives and Archdiocesan officials, including Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago.
